The American dream can be defined differently all around the world. What I feel the dream is might not really be the dream of the student sitting across from me. In the past, it was communicated to me the dream was working hard for everything you have. I can still say to myself part of that might be true, but I feel there is more to this so-called American dream. Some think the dream is having the great job with a big house, the perfect family; drive the nicest cars etc. etc. I can see that as being important to some people, but I am not one of them. I feel for me it would be, balance of self-worth, pride, and the way in which I treat people. To strive to be the best in all I can do. It is not about the house I live in, the car I drive, or how many kids I have, if I am married or not. As long as I feel I have done the best I can do, I am happy with that. We have grown to be a world where the material things are what some really feel the dream is. It is not about money or material things, but if we are truly being the person we want to be. Being at peace with the way our life is going and striving to be all we can be. It is about being healthy and appreciating every day that is giving to us. Loving one another and trying to help where help is needed. By being filled with peace, joy and happiness in my heart, and being able to share that with the people around me is what I feel the dream is.
